Pink Saturday Icecapades!

Just couldn't resist buying these ice skates for $5.00.  They were kinda dirty white, so I decided that they really were meant to be pink, of course!  I added a little fur at the top, gave them some sparkly laces and a little sparkle toe flower and I think they are
so shabby chic!  What do you think pinkies?  Wouldn't this be a wonderful Christmas display stuffed with holley and greenery and hung on a garden gate or front door or anywhere!

My first Pink Saturday Blog.......YIPPEE!!

Thanks so much to Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for allowing me to participate in Pink Saturday.  Pink is my favorite color and I use it whenever I can.  The arrangement you see here is on the table in the entry to our master bedroom.  Whenever I walk past it, I have to stop and admire the beauty and happiness it brings me.

Pink Girlie Boudoir Pillow creation

Um, can you tell I reached a creative block when it comes to making pillows?  I wanted to do something different and, well,  guess you could say this pillow is a little different.
I've always wondered what to do with one of these contraptions, lord knows I couldn't wear one of them now if I were dyin!  So after seeing these things in the thrift stores, I finally bought one for $1.00.  I noticed the check-out clerk gave me a funny look that said "hey mama, who are you kiddin, you ain't gonna fit in this!"

I decided to turn it into a pillow, a boudoir pillow.  My dear hub suggested calling it "the lonely guys pillow."  Um.

Anyway, here it is.  Not sure what to do with it.  I might put it in my booth for a good  conversational piece.  Shows I got a sense of humor.  I noticed too, after I made it that one side is flatter than the other, but I won't go there.

I'll let you know what happens to the poor thing.

Welcome Little Payeton Rainy into this world!

Well, the day finally arrived.  My sister has been crazy nuts since she found out she was going to be a Grandma for the first time!  Her sweet son, my nephew, whom I adore
and his sweet, darling wife brought little Payeton Rainy into this world yesterday around 2:00pm.  My sister went into the delivery room (after bribing the hospital guard)???? Hard to tell what she promised him to get inside the delivery room.....um?????????  I'll get more details on this later.  Of course she could have acted like a mad woman and threatened to rip his face off!  All I know is that she was determined to get into the delivery room to see her granddaughter born. And, she pulled it off.  Said she got in there just in time to grab one of her daughter-in-laws legs.  Seems the other Grandma had the other leg.  Daddy was staying pretty close to Mommies head, wispering sweet nothings in her ear.  Meantime Mommie was probably ready to kill Daddy for what he did to her.

Anyway, look who came out smiling.  Isn't she a doll?  Look at that hair and that sweet little bow.....I'm going all gushy.  My sister is so lucky and I know she will spoil her rotten.

Even duck tape couldn't rescue this sad little chair........

Oh whoa is me!  This is one sad little chair that sat in the back of the garage at an estate sale.  It was covered with boxes and other things, but I could see the little tiny floral fabric peeking out and calling my name.  When I uncovered the stuff on top it revealed itself as one sweet little boudoir chair that at one time had been dearly loved.
I thought about passing it up, especially when I saw the duck tape.  But hey, it really does have potential.  I imagined the lady that used to sit in this sweet little chair, perhaps in front of a vanity table or maybe while mending something for her family, she would have wanted me to have it.  So, in my little tiguan it goes!

And, the best part of all, it was only $5.00!

Next, it's off to the upholster for some love.

As soon as it's ready, I'll show everyone.

Pink Pillows Everywhere

If I had my way I would have pink in every room in my house.  To me it is the most romantic, peaceful color, but it is also very girlie and feminine.  So for now I will limit the guestroom, or my sister's  "Kim Room," as she calls it to my pink decor.

So, pinkies, what do you think?

Bell Jar or Cloche Collection

What is it about these bell jars or cloche as some are called.  They are little greenhouses
that are now making their way into the cottage home to show off many different things.
I like them standing alone or with an item underneath.  Whatever you place under the cloche doesn't matter because it suddently takes on an aire of importance.  A simple shell or small trinket becomes a work of art when it surrounded by all the sparkling glass.
Here are few that I have arranged on my entryway table.
Enjoy.

My Sister's Majolica Collection

If you are a collector of Majolica or know what it is, then you know it is very rare, expensive and hard to come by.  My sister, Kim has one of the largest collections I've seen.  It all started with a picture in a decorating magazine, maybe it was Traditional Homes, not sure.  It was probably a 1998 issue that featured a beautiful room filled with colorful majolica pottery.  We were both hooked.  We scoured antique shops near and far in search of majolica.  She got the bug for collecting it and she ended up with
a bunch.  Mostly she collects the yellows and greens.
Notice the cabinet.  It's vintage and we came across it in an antique store way, way, way out in the boonies.  Don't you think it shows off her majolica big time beautiful?

She swore me to secrecy about what she paid for each piece, and I'll never tell.
She said that I could only divulge the real value to her husband if she should go first.

That's so he won't throw it out or heaven forbid, give it to his next wife.  I suggest she just will it to me.    He is under the mistaken impression that is just cheap, gaudy dishes that makes her happy.  Tee Hee.

Oh, I forgot to tell yall that she has a lot more in another cabinet.  But, that's another post.
Stay tuned.

My Collection of Hotel/Railroad Silver and sweet memories.....

It wasn't until just about a few years ago, that my Mom gave me an old silver pitcher with the logo of the Greenbrier Hotel.  It has special meaning because my Grandmom worked at the grand Southern Icon for over 40 years.  I took just one look at it and knew that I was about to start a "collection."  The worn silver over the pewter has a patina like nothing else.  It's lovely to look at and even lovelier when it's in your own china cabinet!
I remember this type of silver so well.  Every year until I was around nine years old, my Mom and I would ride the train to my Grandmom's house.  I can remember vividly the sounds and smell of the train and especially the diner car!  We would have tea and cookies and eveything would be served on white, crisp linens.  Silver  pitchers held icewater and little pitchers held hot water for your tea.  I used to think the little pitchers were just for little girls.  Excuse me while I get all teary eyed.......
Anyway, I have found very reputable ebay seller that deals only with Hotel and Railroad treasures.  If you want to go there and look around, it's called Union Depot.
Hope you enjoy how I've displayed my treasures.
I also have a collection of Greenbrier Hotel China designed by  Dorothy Draper.  I hope to show you a picture as soon as I can. Thanks for coming by to see me.

Mirror, Mirror On the Wall..............

I love venetian mirrors and if I had my way and the money, I would have an entire wall covered with them.  However, they can be a little pricey.  This is a picture of the wall in my dining room that is a work in progress.  Most of these mirrors were purchased at Home Goods or TJ Maxx and the heart shaped one was given to me by my sister.

I have a few more venetian mirrors hanging around the house, and I will show you those pictures at a later time.

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm loving this blogging thing.

Little Granny's Baby Rocker

Boy, do I have grandmas and babies on the brain lately!  My sister is having her first grandchild like right now.....if the Mom will cooperate.  Seems Mom drank some caster oil today to help slide things along!! Lord have mercy!  Anway, finding this little vintage rocker seemed fitting for the mood.  The only problem is that it needs some reweaving on the seat, but since I'm really not into that sort of thing too much, I decided to give it a little lacy pillow seat and cover for the back.  It's going to Miss Minnie's Shop....................... It was a real find at my favorite Habitat for Humanity Resale Shop for $10.            I love it but I have to let it go. I can't keep everything, that is according to my husband!     Wonder how he would feel if I cleared out all of those golf clubs that he has collected over the years!  Anyway, what do yall think??

Sweet Vanity Dresser

Another booth from Miss Minnie's Antiques to feast your eyes upon.  Everything is vintage from the little baby jacket to the prom dress.  The gal who runs this booth is a faithful auction goer.  She loves all things shabby, chippy and painted....she knows her stuff and puts it all so well together.  Just wanted yall to see.

Meet Dollie Lady

Don't you just love Dollie Lady.  The shop owner at Miss Minnie's Antiques got tired of straightening up all the dollies scattered about the shop, so she came up with the idea of "Dollie Lady."  I think she is just the sweetest, old fashioned lookin gal that I've ever seen!

Pretty In Pink

This is how I like my cake served!  Browsing around one of my favorite thrift stores I ran across an ugly, dented cake cover.  For some reason it caught my eye, and I bought it for 50 cents! If my ideal went bad, then what the heck!
Mind you this was an experiment, but it came out looking pretty sweet.
I'm glad I took a picture to show you because it sold within a few days of placing it in my booth.  Now, I'm always on the lookout for old cake covers.

Some more things for Sissie's Shabby Cottage

These three items were all very ugly in the beginning.  The little wooden boxes, (I love little wooden boxes) were irresistible.  I painted them white, added rose decals and ribbon.  The sweet little percolator coffee pot was a real find at the Habitat Store for .50!  I couldn't resist giving it the "Sissie Touch" with white paint and a pink rose.
Very shabby cottage chic!

A few items for Sissie's Shabby Cottage Booth

I found an old, severely tarnished silver platter that had seen its better days, but I couldn't pass up the $2.00 price tag! So, I decided to slap on some white paint, add a sweet rose decal, and there ya go, a pretty little platter perfect for the shabby cottage bedroom vanity...... I also found some lovely green toile fabric and started making pillows.  I'll show you more of these later..............Oh, I just had an idea! I think I will go out tomorrow looking for more cheap silver trays.  Christmas is coming.

Thrift Store Vanity Table gets new life

I stopped by one of my favorite thrift stores a few days ago and found this lonely little vanity table that was definitely in need of some jazzing up.  So, off to the back of my little Volkswagen Tiquan she goes!   Of course I had to ask my dear hubby to help me put it in the garage.  He just sighs and is over so obiedient, of course he does mumble a few words under his breath, but you'd think after being married to me for 35 years that he would understand my need to rescue ugly things and give them new life.  He still grumbles about the paint drips that I mistakingly dropped on the garage floor,
Hey, a girl needs her space.  And, right now the garage is my art studio.

The one thing I neglected to do was to take a before picture.  It was an ugly tan color with brown wooden knobs.  The color you see on the inside of the vanity is the same as the outside used to be.  I left the inside of the vanity unpainted because it still looks pretty good.  I just love the pretty flower knobs that I added.  They were a real find at the Home Goods Store and I've been waiting for just the right piece to utilize them.

I also found the little chair that you see here for a mere $5.00!  All it needed was a little white paint and it now looks great.

I'm putting this in my shop tomorrow and I'm hoping that others love it as much as I do.  I can just see it in a teenager's bedroom full of all her favorite makeup and trinkets.  Or in a guest room full of goodies for your guests.

What do yall think?

Love your blog. Love Pink, can't get enough.

My sister's beautiful livingroom is so dreamy.  Note her french cabinet full of majolica.  I'm not sure how many pieces she actually has but, I'd say hundreds.    Our decorating styles are so much alike and yes, we are both hopelessly adicted to home decorating books and shopping for our homes.  Our idea of a good time is going to Home Goods, antique stores and thrift stores in search of that perfect thing we just gotta have.  So, what do you think of her gorgeous room?
