Old Wooden Boxes

Hi Bloggerettes!  What is it about an old wooden box that turns our heads around.  Is it the shabbiness and the worn look of the wood or is there something else??  Could it be because they have withstood the tests of time, or because they have traveled and held wonderful things. Or, is that we are just junkers at heart and they speak the very essence of junking!
Ahhhh, if you find one with some words written on it, does that mean it wants to stay that way?
If you find one and paint it white and add flowers....will it get mad?

If you give it a new life....will it be happy?

If you talk nicely to it, will it renew itself ?

And if you keep talking to wooden boxes like I do,
will people think you've lost your marbles?????

Are you captivated by old wooden boxes and if so, what do you do with them?
                                               ~~hugs~~

I have one REALLY old wooden box that I put shoe polish in . . . I just left it as it was. I display things like this on top of my china hutch in their natural state :)

Your boxes are beautiful!! I love boxes old or new. I really like the ones I can paint and if they have a special or unusual curve, I am even more excited. I store photos in one, junk in another, patterns in a pretty little white one - oh, I have too many to list. But talking to boxes - well, this is a first but since I talk to my car I guess I have lost a few marbles along the way.

I think it's a junkers at heart type thing! Anything you touch is just "that much better" so I'm sure the karma is fine!
Thank you so much for posting the Barnyard Bash:@)

Mine always answer thank you...does that mean I've lost my marbles too?
I don't know what it is about boxes and little drawers, but aren't we all just a little batty about them? Maybe it's the Pandora in us!!!

My sister has been visiting me this weekend and we spent Friday and Saturday thrifting. I bought a lot of wood stuff that I am going to paint and fix up. I can't wait to see how it turns out! I think we hit every thrift store in the area. My idea of a fun weekend!! I can't wait to come back to the beach and check out your place! Love & blessings from NC!

Sissie, I tried to buy a old wood box today at an antique mall and they said it was for display only! Can you believe it? I will keep checking back to see if the dealer changes her mind. I love old boxes whether painted or not. I hope you are having a great weekend. xo, Sherry

I am going to look at wooden boxes in a whole different light now! I'm always looking at the furniture at the thrift stores to paint, but now I need to stop and look at the boxes. Sissie - you did a beautiful job with each of these! I especially love the last one. I think I'd put bud vases or glass bottles in each spot with flowers. They are beautiful!

Hello Sissie ~ I usually give most everything a shabby white makeover but lately I've been leaving alot "as is" to warm up my booth for the fall. I'm sure once the holidays are around I'll be back to dreamy whites with a bit of sparkle!

Hi Sissie, I loved your comment at the end of the post...made me smile!
I don't know what there is about old boxes but I LOVE them. Mine are all in their natural state, I have not had the courage to paint them. But after looking at how beautiful the white, shabby wood boxes look I might be compelled to give one a coat of paint.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Another thing we have in common...love wooden boxes!! Cute story: a few years ago my best friend's mother died and the family decided to have an estate sale to sell off the things they didn't want. I went and one of the things I bought was an old PEACH packing box....and lo & behold, it had my home town's name on it where I had worked in packing sheds during summers in high school! Last summer I also acquired a lovely wooden box from my mother-in-law when we downsized her home. I love it and plan to do something to it soon. Then it will be used to hold special family treasures. Maybe if I talk to it it will tell me what it wants me to do to spruce it up!

Sissie....Very amusing!Hmmmmm...thoughts to ponder! I guess I have asked myself that question before too! I do think I like things painted white and given new life or at least repurposed to be once again loved.~Hugs, Patti

Sissie, the older the box the better, I love them....I like to leave them plain but sometimes you need to dress them up!! I love the ones you have here, gorgeous painting, you really make them look so pretty.

I love those boxes! I'm soo into rennovating old wooden boxes, although sometimes I do feel guilty which is why I try not to use ones that are too much of an antique lol.
