Good Things Come in Wrinkled Bundles....

I love stopping in Habitat Restore.  It's nearby so I usually stop there once a day just to see if there is anything wonderful waiting for me.

Well today was one of those days.  I noticed a bunch of white sheets all wrinkled and bundled up at $2.00 per bundle.  The price tag said, two flat sheets and 2 euro shams.  Okay.  Upon closer inspection I found they were vintage......my heart skipped a few beats, I looked around to see if anyone noticed my excitement, (because if they did they would surely want to fight me for them!)....just sayin.

There wasn't just one bundle, there were several.  By this time I was so excited that I was sure someone was going to trip me, grab them and run.......

On the way to pay for them a lady stopped me in my tracks.
"What ya got there?" she said.  Me..."Oh just some wrinkled sheets and pillow cases...."
"You'll have to iron them." she said.
Me...."Yeah, I know.  What a pain. (evil Snidley Whiplash laugh)   They probably have holes and stains too, but I could use the fabric."
She was trying to trick me....I could feel it.  But, they ain't no trickin this old gal.  I know good vintage linens when I see them.  Ha, I'll show her.
I paid and made a bee line for the door...

I washed and ironed them and all the time I'm ooohing and ahhhing....I'm noticing all the pretty embroidered edges, the lovely touches of lace and the beautiful woven cotton patina that only comes with vintage.  And, oh, the buttons!

There were even sewn in laundry tags where they had been washed and laundered most likely on a regular basis.
Definitely well cared for....

I still have two more euro shams to starch and iron.

Mr. Sissie saw me carrying them in.  He says, "What are you going to do with a bunch of old sheets?"
I just smiled to myself and said, "why wash and iron them of course, Darling....."

Dear Lord....thank you for fine, old linens, Habitat and Oxiclean.....

~~hugs~~
Sissie

Oh you DID get a bargain!! The store in our area has nothing but doors and old hardware and 1979's light fixtures! LOL Nothing good, IMHO! You are very lucky to find these linens. Does your store typically have home goods such as this? Wowie- I am impressed if it does! I put you on my LF list- my GFC widget still isn't working correctly. I appreciate that you're following along with me, Sissie.

Such a great post--I feel the same way as you do when I find something great at thrift store. Once I found this awesome mirror at Goodwill and felt like I needed armed guards all the way to the register. Several people stopped me and ask, "Are you going to get that?" I felt like saying "No--I just love pushing it around in the cart:)"

They are really lovely, Sissie! Your regular visits paid off for sure this time! I'm always afraid someone will say, "Oh, that's a mistake, they shouldn't have been put out" or "that's not the right price".

Wow Sissie, those are the moments I live for when thrifting. I'm going to the Restore soon. Mine is about 45 miles away. I wish I could visit regularly like you do.

They DO look lovely, and I know what you mean about the feel of old 100 percent cotton linens. Things these days just feel thin and get pills on them so easily!
What a good eye you have, you sneaky girl!

What a great find! I found three pillowcases yesterday for a song. Not really vintage like yours but great to stencil with a feedsack stencil. I'll dig a little deeper in the linen racks : )
