In my world....decorating never ends....

This is how my living room used to look.

It's wide open with lots and lots of floor to ceiling windows.  The ceilings are 10 feet and every living area extends into the next.

It's been a real project trying to pull it together.  The built ins have been the hardest part to decorate along with the open living space connecting with the dining room and eating area all the way through to the kitchen and family room.
When we built this house I was really excited about the open living spaces but now I am craving cozier spaces.  So, I keep trying to cozy up each living space instead of the entire area.  Not easy, I'm finding out.  I have learned that I do feel more relaxed with four walls and less windows....but for now this will have to do.

As you know I added the blue gray, starting with a garden bench and some accessories..... so here it is after.....

Working with an open floor plan has not been easy and maybe someday I'll get it right.  This is the view of the living room from the
family room with the kitchen in the center.
Adding more stuff to the bookshelves has really helped to fill in the starkness.  Most of the stuff on the shelves were found in antique shops or places like HomeGoods, Tuesday Mornings and TJ Maxx.

The Venetian Mirror came from Horchow/Neiman Marcus

View from the dining room into the living room....see what I mean
about expansive and open.....

My next project is the dining room.  I do not like how it looks right now and I'm planning to redo it.

I don't know why, but dining rooms are always the hardest rooms for me to decorate.  How about you.  Do you have a room that's been hard to decorate?

Well, it's Friday and time for the weekend.  I hope you all enjoy it and if you are out shopping and antiquing here's hoping you'll find a treasure!

~~hugs~~
Sissie

Ha,while I was looking at your living room, your name popped up! Oh Sissie, your living room looks wonderful, all cozied up!!!! It always looked beautiful before, but I must admit, adding more pillows, and treasures to the shelves just made it even prettier. You have such an eye for putting things together.
I don't see anything wrong with the rest of your house, but I'm sure after you "re-do" the other rooms, they will knock our socks off.
Enjoy your weekend, pretty lady.

Sissieness, your living room is gorgeous. I really like the sweet soft blue peeping up all around. Your builtins are fabulous and you've done a great job in decorating. I think they're hard to do. Your home is just stunning.

It looks beautiful to me, Sissie. Our "great room" is a bit similar to yours and I find it hard to pull it all together, too. My dining room I am pretty well satisfied with. You did a great job on your house! Love it- xo Diana ps...What? No kitty in the picture?

sissie you live in a palace of shimmer and light!! Its so pretty and romantic and elegant~it will never look wrong. Now what are you going to do in the dining room? Would you ever paint your walls the sheerest of spa blue?

I think the blue gray with all your white is perfect. This is just a thought but have you considered area rugs to help define your spaces? I'm no designer for sure but I like to layer things. A rug is just another layer and they cozy up a room quickly. Take or leave my two cents. :o) Have a great weekend...Ann

Sissie, I love your living room with its high windows and white furniture! I've always loved your curvy sofa and striped wing backs! The room is open and lovely. It actually suits you to a T because you are like that yourself.
Have a lovely weekend.

I love your open home. It looks great the way you have added more to the shelves and I love the mirror.

I think you do a wonderful job decorating. I would be at a total loss for what to do with an open concept home such as yours. I like how you've filled in the spaces. The addition of color warms it up. We're our own worst critic, but in my opinion you are fantastic at home decor!

Your house is just gorgeous. I think everything you have done is beautiful. I love to decorate but the only rule I follow is if I like it, it works. So I guess I am not that picky. Sometimes it takes a while for me to get it right (for me) but I don't stress over it. If I lived at your house, I would just sit back and enjoy! :) Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Gorgeous spaces..gorgeous clean whites...I love your house and the way you decorate! I know what you mean though- we who love to decorate or garden are never truly finished...we tweak here and there and I'm always finding something I absolutely love and have to find a place for it which leads to more tweaking! I know you enjoy it so have fun! I'm off to the antique mall today!

Your home looks like it should be in Southern Living!!

The only room in my house I don't like is the den. It's where we spend most our time and it's too masculine but that is the Commander's domain so I just leave it be. I would love to change it though. Perhaps in time!

Love,

Finally, a picturesque view...so very gorgeous sweet Sissy. Isnt it mind boggling as we just cant seem to get it perfect? In my eyes, it sure is perfection loving the openess and monochromatique look. The new addition to the french blue pieces is glorious. I still want the seashell fabric on the setee ;))

I agree, your home needs to be show cased in Cottage Living, Country Living, BHG, and all to enjoy your lovliness.

*Pretend the folling is in 8pt type here...Sorry i have been around recently. My store front , ebay and Etsy stores have been on hold along with life. Between loosing my best friend unexpectantidly, me having a pain procedure gone wrong from a month ago and then get this... last week a lovely home invasion. We are ok, still shaking in my boots at every sound and the barking pups who are still on high alert who saved us. We were very lucky the intruders were not armed or used much force. Im still on lock down mode.

As I told our kids who have all posted on their sites for others to learn from maybe our complacency of not locking the outdoor garage door will alert everyone else to be more cautious and mindful to LOCK IT UP day or night in these times as society grows angry-er and needy-er. Security being installed all around us and maybe one day soon I'll be able to sleep at night again. In the meantime cat-naps during the day for moi'. Looking over my shoulder every moment is not my idea of living secure.

Anyways...Keep up the awesome work, you are forever putting a smile on my face with all your creativity

Best always,
Cyndy

Sissie - It truly is lovely- all of it!! I think it is so interesting how hard we seem to be in getting "it right"- with our decorating- why in the world are we so hard on ourselves friend? Well this friend is here to say- You have it perfectly right - Enjoy the continual transformation that will come -

Love the added pretties to your gorgeous shelves- course this is from a girl who thinks more is more!
