Finding Vintage Linens

Like most of you I love searching for good stuff in the thrift stores.  Sometimes I find something good and others times.....nothing!

Well today was one of those good days.  I stopped at the local Habitat Restore thinking I might find a nice little table to paint.  Didn't find one but I noticed a bunch of white sheets all wrinkled and bundled up at $2.00 per bundle.  The price tag said, two flat sheets and 2 euro shams and pillow cases. Okay.  Upon closer inspection I found they were vintage......my heart skipped a few beats, I looked around to see if anyone noticed my excitement, (because if they did they would surely want to fight me for them!)....just sayin.

There wasn't just one bundle, there were several.  By this time I was so excited that I was sure someone was going to trip me, grab them and run.......

On the way to pay for them a lady stopped me in my tracks.
"What ya got there?" she said.  Me..."Oh just some wrinkled sheets and pillow cases...."
"You'll have to iron them." she said.
Me...."Yeah, I know.  What a pain. (evil Snidley Whiplash laugh)   they probably have holes and stains too, but I could use the fabric."
She was trying to trick me....I could feel it.  But, they ain't no trickin this old gal.  I know good vintage linens when I see them.  Ha, I'll show her.
I paid and made a quick exit....

I washed and ironed them and all the time I'm ooohing and ahhhing....and I'm noticing all the pretty embroidered edges, the lovely touches of lace, the monograms and the beautiful woven cotton patina that only comes with vintage.  And, oh, the buttons!

There were even sewn in laundry tags where they had been washed and laundered most likely on a regular basis.
Definitely well cared for....

This is just a sample of how many I found.  I still have more euro shams to starch and iron.

Mr. Sissie saw me carrying them in.  He says, "What are you going to do with a bunch of old sheets?"
I just smiled to myself and said, "why wash and iron them of course, Darling....."
Silently I say a prayer....
Dear Lord....thank you for fine, old linens, Habitat and Oxiclean.....

Doesn't take much to make this ole girl happy!

~~hugs~~
Sissie

Sissie, they are gorgeous linens! I love how you describe finding them and keeping your excitement on the down low! I do that all the time, like someone is going to rip something I find from my hands, (hey it could happen). I think we true lovers of vintage feel that way when we find a real treasure at a great price.
hugs,
Linda

OH, these are beautiful! So glad someone thought to donate the sheets instead of tossing them. Don't you love that extra pitter-patter in your heart when you find a treasure like the linens?

You really did find a bargain, Sissie! Isn't it wonderful how something like vintage linens can bring such joy to our hearts?! God bless the person that took such good care of the bedding, and left them for someone else to cherish...instead of throwing them away.
Enjoy your treasures, Sissie.
