I will always remember the Christmas that I really wanted a bicycle. I was just ten years old and I really, really, really wanted a bike. But my Mother had already prepared me for a "slim Christmas," due to some unexpected family expenses. So, I asked Santa for a doll and maybe some doll clothes, but secretly I really wanted a bike. The one I was drooling over was green, with a silver fender and a headlight and horn.
When Christmas morning came, I will never forget seeing that beautiful, shiny green bicyle sitting under the tree!
Now, when I think back I realize that buying that bike was a real hardship for my parents. I know they made sacrifices to make a little girl's wish come true.
I rode that bike, wrecked it a hundred times and skined my knees
more times than I can count. But, I was one proud little girl riding up and down
our dusty old roads.
I was too young then to understand how much my parents did
I was too young then to understand how much my parents did
without to make my Christmas so wonderful. But, I'll never forget the happiness and
the love they gave to me.
***************************************
This is my tricycle that my husband gave me for my birthday this year.
And believe it or not, this is the only the second bike that
I have ever owned.
Isn't it pretty in Pink!
Notice I said tricycle, or three wheeler.
My husband felt that I would be safer riding with three wheels
rather than two....um, wonder if he worried about my safety or the fact that I am somewhat over 50........really over 50......and needed some stableness????
If you look close, the license plate does say, "Wicked Witch."
No doubt, Mr. Sissie meant that as a term of endearment.
So, Happy Pink Saturday to all my blogger friends.
Be sure and go visit Beverly and visit other
lovely Pink Saturday loveliness!
hugs.................Sissie

Good Morning Sissie...
Happy Pink Saturday sweetie. I wish you lived close we could ride like the wind together. Last year for my birthday I got a blue three wheeler. I just love it. It makes me feel young to be riding it, and believe it or not I still ride like the wind. (anyway in my mind I do)
I love this story about the green bike for Christmas. I can jus see you peddaling away and free in spirit. Hair flying like the wind. Thank you so much for sharing.

I adore your story Sissie and have no doubt all the things are parents did to make us happy. When I was growing up in the 50"s there were no credit cards, cash only, so you had to have it to spend it. Happy Pink Saturday, Char
G'day, Sissie ~ What a precious story that many of us can easily relate to ... we had many a slim Christmas that Mother 'gave up' so we would have our hearts desire, seldom hearts desires.
Love the beauty bike ... not trike ... chuckle!
TY for your note today ... yes, your Father is right, those that gave their lives were the real heroes ... God bless all their souls. Let Freedom Continue To Ring. I will post more until Tuesday about WWII.
Have a beautiful day. TTFN ~ Marydon
Hi, Sissie,
I loved reading about your childhood Christmas memories! I am so glad you got that green bike that was your heart's desire! Your parents were so kind to get you what you really wanted even if it meant sacrifice for them. My parents were the same way. I think your new trike is splendid and of course, I love the color of it. Have a beautiful weekend and thank you so much for stopping by my Bunny Cottage! It really brightened my day! Vicki
