Thrifty Nifty Finds

Hi Bloggerettes!  I went to a great estate auction over the weekend.  Lots of antique furniture and good stuff!  I found this sweet little
antique chair in perfect condition.  Ooh I love little chairs!
Did I tell you that I love little chairs.  I cannot resist buying them especially if the price is right.
My question to you is....

Should I paint or not?
It's so pretty and has the nicest patina and I'm thinking maybe it should be left alone.  But, I'd like to know what you all think.

Got this little ladder back chair too.  I kinda like it in its
natural state.  Do you?

Can you imagaine wearing this feather head band hat....
I think they were very popular back in the 50's.
Looks kinda creepy to me!

My big win is this gate legged table with the drop leaf sides.
It is going to get a paint job for sure.  I picked up some
Benjamin and Moore "chantilly lace" paint and I'm thinking it's going to like its new look!

I'll show it to you once I get it done.  I know it's going to be a project.

Be sure and stop by and look at all the found treasures.

~~hugs~~

I have a table exactly like yours my friend and I love love love love love it! I have another one that is really close to it as well but it's bigger. You will LOVE having it. I use one of mine as a 'extra' table in my formal dining room. When we don't need it it's folded down. When all the family is here I pile her up with pitchers of tea, basket of bread, etc. Keeps me from running back and forth to the kitchen.

The chair...wow...that's a tough call to paint or not paint that one. I MIGHT leave it as is..but WHAT do I know!?

Hugs to you "OH TALENTED ONE!"

I love chairs, too. A few years back hubby brought home this cute little chair with this gawd-awful pinkish orange paint job. He stripped it to natural wood and it's absolutely gorgeous...a real antique I think. And he only paid $9! Can't wait for you to use your magic on the table!

Great finds Sissie. I love the chair "as is". The wood in your pictures looks beautiful and it's a nice contrast to the cane seat.
Looking forward to seeing your painted table.

Sissie I think the chairs are perfect in their natural state. Sometimes paint is needed but these are pretty just as they are. Now the table will be gorgeous painted...can't wait.

Sissie, I love that first chair. What a great design to that. I would leave it alone. It is beautiful.

I would not touch the chairs but I am dying to see that table painted. The chairs are TOO beautiful a patina to touch.

Hi Sissie,

I was going to say, what, you didn't paint it?!? You asked, so here's my two cents worth, I'd give it your Sissie shabby chic paint job!!

LOVE that hat!!!

Lucky you! Those are some awesome finds. I'd say leave the chairs as is. Something I just love is seeing a room done in mostly whites/beige with a wooden piece or two in the natural wood color thrown in. Can't wait to see that table!

Nancy

Wow, how fun! That first chair is perfect, I wouldn't change a thing! I believe my G-Mom-B had that table in front of her livingroom window forever! It sure looks familiar, that was the table she'd put her 4 foot Christmas tree on:@)

So....you have a little problem with tables *and* chairs? Man I love you :)

I say paint it, but I say paint everything!

Hi Sissie,
I just love your gate leg table, and can't wait to see it when you've painted it! And the chairs are wonderful! While I usually am one to say "paint it!", in this case, I think they would be best left natural, as the finishes are awesome! You always manage to find the greatest treasures. Estate sales here usually are just a bunch of over priced junk!

My sweet Sissie,
What an amazing estate sale! You did good girlfriend. Okay, here's my vote. No, NO to painting the chairs. They are just perfect with your awesome pillow to embellish. The gate leg table, wow. I'm always on the look-out for them. And I agree about being a chair fiend. I am always buying chairs, little side tables & lamps. I guess cuz I can find them for around 50. pretty affordable. Lisa

My goodness Sissie, leave both chairs in their natural finish for a while. Paint them when you feel the need. (If you keep them). They are both very pretty as is.

I am thrilled to see the majority saying leave the chairs natural. Look how nicely it brings out the red in your cat.
I think painting it white will wash out the color of the caning as well.
I'll be back to see your treatment of the table.

I like the warm patina on both wooden chairs, but they'd look nice white too.

Another white table coming up! :)

Hi Sissie....Sometimes it is hard to make a decision on whether to paint or not. I guess if you are in doubt you should wait and think about it. Some furniture should be left the way it is....at least that is what I think. You got some fabulous pieces! The little drop leaf table is going to look very pretty! Can't wait to see it!~Hugs, Patti

I like little chairs, too, Sissie! I like little accent tables almost as much! :) I think you should leave the chair for now, since you are not sure. Sometimes an idea will "come to" you if you wait, otherwise I think it looks fine as it is.

I'm with you on the little chairs...and little tables, and that gate-leg beauty will look fabulous in white! A friend has one all distressed and yummy! Have fun!

Hi Super Thrifty Shopper Sissie,
I adore the chair as is. I would live with it for awhile and let it tell you what she wants to be. It really is beautoful the way it is, and I can't believe a white lover like me is saying it. LOL!
You really find amazing stuff!!!
Your sisters home is so beautiful. I fell in love with her mantel. I hope you two have a great time when you see each other soon. Of course I already know you will.
Thank you sweetheart for such a lovely message you left me. It was a blessing to me.

Hi Sissie! What a lovely blog you have! I'm definitely adding you to by blog reader. I think the ladderback chair is so lovely with it's patina that I would probably leave it. The other chair I think would look good painted. But then, this is the thing I always struggle with -- to paint or not to paint...

Oh I adore painted furniture! I even painted out my kitchen cabinets, it's so much brighter, cheery and it catches the light better!
Plus....painted furniture is so chic and shabby! am i right!

I'd paint it...and if you are extra ambitious...come over here and paint a couple of my things too will ya! I have a few projects just laying in wait cause i have come to dread painting furniture! lol
I think it's because I've been doing it all my life...and not just for myself!

okay, now I'm babbling, forgive me...I've been away for the summer....so maybe I'm making up for lost time, or should I say lost comments!

I love your blog! Keep it up darling!

HI Sissie. Those chairs are beautiful. And the table, great. Wonderful finds. The chairs are good as they are I think. No paint needed. LOL Don't know if I told you why I am so late commenting. We sold our house a couple of days ago and we are moving withinn three weeks. We are very happy we sold it as the housing market is slow in this country as it is in yours. We are the lucky ones. But anyway busy weeks ahead.I will try to visit as much as possible. Have a nice day

Hello Sissie!

I used to be a chair addict but after downsizing, I had to learn to control my addiction! I agree with the table getting painted, but the patina of the cane chair looks just too good to paint. I love the details and am amazed at the great shape it is in. Love your shell basket! As for the ladder back chair, you should leave it in its natural state until inspiration hits.

What great stuff you always find! I think I would leave the chairs as they are, I think their coloring is beautiful. Plus it will save you the labor of painting them! I can't wait to see the table painted though. The black feather would be neat as some sort of Autumn/Halloween decoration!

Pam Kessler said...

Wonderful chairs. Especially like the first one with the caned seat. I'm a leave it alone unless it's in bad shape kind of girl, so I would say not paint it if you like it's patina. I have bought something like 9 chairs so far this summer and I may have to eventually weed some out.
