Need some help from the Bloggerettes!

Hi Bloggerettes!  I need your help.  I found this wonderful old farm style table at the Habitat Resale Store and I'd like your thoughts whether to paint or not to paint.
I started sanding the crayon marks off of the top and I've given it a good bath with some Murphys Oil Soap.
I am also going to fill in that minor wood crack on the left leg.

I just love the drawers.  There is one on each end.

Should I just stain it?
Or maybe paint the base and leave the top natural?
Paint it white and shabby it up?
Dry brush it?
Help!!

Don't know why I'm frettin over this so much, cause I know you are going to come through for me....

~~hugs~~

I think the wood is so rustic and wonderful looking that I would say, don't paint. Maybe some stain and some beeswax?

Sissie, dear, you have already done a great job. Get yourself some Minwax or Watco Danish Oil and give the table a couple of good coats. It will get rid of the dry look, enhance the grain, and make an already-fabulous table look even more wonderful.

This is a tough one for sure...For me it would depend on how I intended to use the table, but since I am guessing this will be going into your booth/store, you need to go with what would be the most versatile and appeal to the most ppl/potential buyers...My kitchen table has painted legs and base, and a stained top...perhaps to capture the rustic feel of the top, you could stain/wax it as suggested by Claudia and doing shabby painted legs...

Best of luck Kelsie

PS: If you become really stumped you could just send it to my house *wink*

What a wonderful table! I agree with the others, wax it and see how it looks. Wonderful wood and age on this. You can always paint it later if you decide too.

Wow! Great table! Ditto on Linda's comment!

Please don't paint it....this is my favorite type of wood. I love waxed pine...so sturdy and reliable. Wax the heck out of it...hit it with the buffer and watch it come alive for you. With a fall setting it will be killer!

I love it just the way it is! It looks very "farmhousy" to me. I've never used wax, so I'm curious as to what that will do....if you wax it, will you let me know? That may be another product I need to add to my arsenal!!

Have fun!!

Polly

p.s. This table is a FABULOUS find!!!!! yay for the Habitat store!!

I think it would be truly lovely if it were painted the palest shade of mint green, then sanded.

Just sayin',

I would paint the base and stain the top , the best of both worlds . Thank you for your input on my sunroom , I have thought about painting the table , but I'm really wanting a table that doesn't take up so much room when I'm not using it , like that cute gateleg one you had in your post awhile back . Love this table too !

...Oh Sissie!!!
I love it as is ~
Go visit here: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/category/products.jsp?navAction=jump&navCount=4&categoryId=cat1544013
and take a look at all of the "salvaged wood" tables!! Maybe a little wax...and a vintage doily runner (so you can see the table peeking through:)

p.s. I'm enjoying your fall blog header!

I love the rustic feel of the top so I would keep a wood finish on that...maybe use some gel stain to add depth. I think I would give the base of the table all they way up to the top the shabby white treatment. Whatever you do I know you'll make it beautiful!

Good Morning Sissie Sweetie...
Step away from the table with the paint brush and your infamous white paint. (I am still waiting on the name of that durn paint too.)

Yes sweetie, I agree with all of the others, a little stain and some beeswax would be perfect. I love the drawers too. So pretty. What a great find, and knowing you it was a steal of a deal. You love a great deal, and it tickles me to see every one of the them.

Thank you for sharing sweetie. I so love to come and see your treasures. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

Hi Sissie :) Whatever you decide to do with the table I know it will look just wonderful :) Thanks for stopping by my Bears Tea Party yesterday, and your very sweet comment. I've been under the weather for the past couple of days, but am starting to feel much better now :)

Have a lovely day my friend!! Warmest hugs, Brenda

First of all, I LOVE your new banner!!! So festive and beautiful...

Second, I think it might be pretty stained with white pickling stain or dry brushed with a watered down cream paint wash. That way the grain would still come thru. Then you could distress the edges.

Now I rarely say this, but I would paint the bottom and stain the top. It is so cute either way!!

Hi Sissie...love this table and I think it would look great with the bottom shabbied up with white and the top left as is! Have fun with it!!

That table has so much personality and such a story to tell that I would put a protective finish on it and call it good.

Love the natural finish!! BUT! I also love your idea of paint on the bottom and top left natural! Can't wait to hear what you decide!

hmmmmm.....I know I'm out voted here, but I don't like pine or maple and put as much paint on as many of those pieces as I come across......sometimes when wood looks so very tired white paint with a little shab simply revives it and gives it a new life. But I would also go with what you think will sell the best in your area......will be interesting to see which way you go :)

Hi Sissie! Love your new banner! I won't be much help with the table, I think it would look great either way. The rustic wood is gorgeous, and would probably have me questioning it also. I like the mix of natural with white and you know, if given the chance and a free day with a paint brush all kinds of stuff get the white treatment around here! See? not much help! I know whatever you do it will be gorgeous! Have a fabulous day! Theresa

My vote is to dry brush it. It's a great piece...lucky you!

Well, I'm no help on the paint/stain issue, but I wanted to say that I love that beautiful table! So much character:@)

Sissie, its gorgeous and I'd kill for it, lol! I would paint he base in an off white and distress it, but leave the top natural and perhaps wax it.

Allison said...

I'm kind of torn between leaving it alone but leaning towards waxing the top and painting the rest of it a nice warm white and distressing it. It'll be fun to see what you decide! Great table and love the 2 drawers.

Hi Sissie....Hmmmm...well, I think I would consider painting the bottom and waxing the top to suit both of your ideas....I also would consider where you are going to use it. I know you will do a fabulous job no matter what. Can't wait to see!~Hugs, Patti

It is a beauty, Sissie,
I would eighter keep it as is, with some wax,--or paint the legs white, and keep the rest--

Lovely table! I vote for a light/natural stain and or just a straight varnish. It has a great sea cottage look to it & reminds me of an end table that I have!

Unknown said...

Since you're going to be filling in the crack on the leg, I would then paint the bottom part and leave the top natural.

Hey Sissie, Its a wonderful table and I know it will be even more beautiful once it gets the Sissie Touch!

That wood looks like the weathered stuff you see in the magazines these days. I wouldn't cover that up.

I'd either wax it and leave it as is or dry brush it in maybe a sage green or aqua that are popular even with the shabby and cottage looks. If you dry brush it, I'd keep a lot of the wood showing underneath.
