Beautiful Things...

Hi Bloggerettes!

Let's talk about beautiful things, girlie things.  As the poet John Keats laments......"A Thing of Beauty is a joy forever:

It's loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness;

but, will keep a bower quiet for us and a sleep
full of sweet dreams,

and health, and quiet breathing.

I have a hard time passing up lovely gowns, slips, prom dresses and pretty vintage girlie things from long ago.

Even Rachel Ashwell can't pass up vintage prom dresses...

I never leave home without wearing my Coco Chanel perfume!
Sweet, worn ballet shoes are so lovely.

What about you, do you love finding and keeping beautiful things, whether old or new????

I'm linking up to Linda's Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays and Savvy Southern Style's Wow Us Wednesday!

Be sure to create, bake, paint, decorate, repurpose or find something wonderful and share it with the rest of us!

~~hugs~~
Sissie

Sissie, we are on the same page I am just starting to get interested in vintage clothes and undergarments. I have always had some in my booth when they jumped out in my face as I was thrifting, but I am now searching. I am tossing around altering some vintage bed jackets etc with vintage lace......If I do it I will post. All of your finds are beautiful as usual!!!!

Sissie,

First I wanna say God bless you and how wonderful 9 years of remision thats great news. I watched my cousin battle cancer for many many years and graduated to heaven a little over a year ago.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words for my mom, she is pretty special to me. I dont have a sister and she is the only thing I have. Thank you so much for everything you said I would've gotten up at the restaraunt had it been one my kids too. I can't imagine someone having the nerve to say something to you after them being rude.

The world is crazy at times, and thank you so much I will pass the word on to my mom. She will appreciate it so much.

Hugs,
Heidi

I'm drooling:) This post reminds me of the beautiful bed jackets my mother used to have but would never wear except the couple of times she was in the hospital. I wonder what happened to them??? I always thought they were so sweet and feminine. No one even makes bed jackets anymore that I know of.

Oh Sissie! What a beautiful post. I love all the frilly, girly stuff and loved it when my girls wore their beautiful prom dresses.

I pick them up sometimes to let my grands play dress up with..they enjoy them and are careful with them...they especially like the old slips..do you remember when they called them can-cans? Hugs-Diana

Beautiful and yes, I love buying beautiful things and I want to keep them all, but some things I have to pass on to someone else. I feel quite sure that no one can love them as much as I would have though!
Love the bed jacket!

Love the lace underthings. And the little round pillow is the cutest I ever did see.....I wish I was skinny and young again and could wear all this stuff and nonsense.

Wow, Sissie! Those are lovely things. I have my grandmother's 'bed jacket' (I never heard it called that!) and it is an ivory version (or at the least very similar to) of the one you have shown here. It also has a very flowy nightgown to go with it. Also- The beaded (earring? Broach?) looks just like one I played with as a kid from my Gram's jewelry box. She let all of us kids play with her jewelry- and those were my favorite. Not just because they were big and sparkly, but also because they were clip-ons! :)

Such pretty things, Sissie. I picked up two vintage prom dresses recently. One is a petal pink with lots and lots of tulle. I've always like that page in Rachel Ashwell's book. Have a great week.

Looking at these prom dresses brings to mind my older sister's gown from the fall of 1959. It was a pretty almost lime/mint green with ruffle over ruffle from the waist to the floor and it was strapless! We have pictures of her in it..so young and delicate with glitter in her hair. After that it used to hang in a shared closet of ours in our room. I was only 6 at the time but just looking at it in it's plastic dry cleaner covering used to mesmorize me! It makes me wonder what happens to the beautiful things from the past? I hope it is hanging somewhere today where someone else can gaze on it and wonder who might have worn it! Thanks for letting me share my memory of something beautiful to me!~Hugs, Patti

Sigh, such beautiful vintage clothes. I wish I was slim enough to wear some of the vintage clothes I have, but geez, they seem to have been so much thinner in those days

Sissie, oh how I love those "purdy" prom dresses. Brings back memories for me....you see I'm a baby boomer and I remember wearing those prom dresses....dates me I guess, heehee.
I would love to own the cape though....so yummy.

Hi Sissie~
What a lovely post. Can I wear one of those beautiful dresses while I run the vacuum? Gone are the days where ladies sat in lovely gowns sipping lemonade. Thanks for sharing the pretties.
Have a wonderful day.

I love all that girly stuff , and I'm wondering why I don't wear anything like it any more . Maybe I'm just to practical in my old age. But looking at them just thrills the little girl in me.

Hi Sissie
All these images are so beautiful, I love the collection of prom dresses!
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and congratulations on your weight loss! That is fantastic, I know I just have been feeling more and more lethargic and it is time to do something about it instead of browbeat myself to death!
We can do this!
Blessings
