Window Panels on the Cheap and Inspiration from the Shabby Chic Diva!

I have been trying to decide what to do with the bare windows in my livingroom and I think I may have found a solution.  When I asked Betsy Speert, the famous designer who now has a blog and gives advice on Tuesdays, she suggested that I add sheers or soft colored panels.  So there ya go.  There is no guarantee they will stay very long but for now....I'm liking them.

These windows are tall so I can only do single panels. Each panel takes 3 and a half yards of fabric.  Silks from Pottery Barn are $100 plus and a toile fabric I liked was $26. per yard.  So......while browsing through Walmart's crafts department I found a silk shantung for $6.00 per yd.  I was surprised to find such a nice fabric however, they only had one bolt with about 8 yards left.  Sold!!!
The color is a soft cream and they do add a softness to the room.

I'm leaving the shutters for some additional texture.  Who knows, they might be gone by tomorrow or the next day....

I'm thinking about ordering a few yards of  toile and adding it to the tops but that's another post.

I did not sew these panels.  There was just too much fabric to fool with so, I used iron on seam tape.  I just turned down and pressed all four edges and used clip rings to hang them.
Easy Peasy!

My next project inspiration was provided by you know who....
Just look at that soft pink table......sigh....

Here's my version.
I found this (what used to be a dark and ugly) table at Habitat.
Painted it a color called Delicate Blush by Behr Ultra.  #150E
I waxed it with AS Clear Wax.
I'm still debating whether or not to distress it or to add a glaze......um....

Doesn't it look pretty with my toile panels.....

Sadly, I won't be able to keep it.  It's destined for my booth at Miss Minnie's.  I have come to terms with the fact that I can't keep everything!

Okay, that's it for today.
Get out there and create, make, sew, paint, photograph, write, repurpose or find something wonderful and share it with us.

~~hugs~~
Sissie

I love how the panels soften the windows but I think you should move the shutters somewhere where they can be better enjoyed. And I agree that we can't keep everything that we paint or make, but that is why we have mall booths! Stop over for my giveaway.

That table is smashing Sissie! I adore it. What is this wax you all keep talking about. What is the purpose of it. Love the panels, they drape so beautifully. Your room is just so warm & elegant.

Have a beautiful eve ~

I guess we were both thinking new draperies this week! I love yours and I love the shutters too... I've got some shutters and I think I've been inspired...

and the pink toile draperies with the pretty pink table... luscious!!!

I know what you mean about "keeping everything"... Thats what caused me to get a booth in the first place... now that I've closed mine.. I have to be very-very careful about what I buy... or be willing to purge something else...

I love the pink table just like it is! I always love your posts and your beautiful photos...

hugs. Dixie

What a great idea with the curtains...no sew! I can't sew a stitch but sure wish I could. I'm afraid if I were in your business, my house would be filled to the brim...I would definitely want to keep everything!

Such pretty curtains, Sissie. We will be moving into our new home the end of the month and window treatments are on the to-do list. Thanks for the idea!

I love your no-sew curtains! So pretty and adding toile? Wonderful! LOVE toile!
Your pink table is gorgeous with the toile curtains. It would be hard for me to part with the table. I would distress the table a little I think.

The table is gorgeous. My husband has his mother's table that is very similar...it's up in the rafters and needs a leg repaired. Now, if I just had your talent for turning it into something wonderful!

Just noticed your new picture. You are so svelte and beautiful! Keep up whatever you are doing, sweet lady!

Hi Sissie! Okay, you have totally inspired me! I am in desperate need of drapery panels for my living room but have not been happy with the prices of what I like, or the selection at the more affordable stores. I think I'll head on over to Walmart and see what they have! I also love the idea of a no-sew drape! I made long panels for other rooms in our home and hours of sewing never ending straight seams just about drove me batty! I also adore your little pink table! It's beautiful as is but I think it would be a show-stopper distressed and glazed! I would have a hard time parting with it too...but you're right...when we have a business to run, we can't hold onto everything! So fun catching up with you today! I always enjoy my visits to your lovely Shabby Cottage!
Best Wishes and Blessings,
Amanda

I like the new curtains, they do add a softness to the room, but the room is gorgeous without them too. I guess my favorite are your pink toile curtains, and that little pink table looks so pretty with them.

Your panels are wonderful and I love the way you hung the rods. I have shorter rods in my living room. I wasn't sure at first but now I really like them. You were wise to just hem tape your panels. I tried to line mine and it was incredibly frustrating. They really didn't turn out too well but I figure no one knows that but me. Happy Weekend Sissie! I never tire of seeing your lovely home.

Sissie, I love the pink table. Pink is my favorite color. I was going to purchase the paint, but I wondered if you used flat, eggshell, or what in the Behr paint? I would love to know. Yours turned out so beautiful. I think I would just leave it as it is.
