I'm feeling so very overwhelmed by this moving process. It's been stressful for my entire family and especially the kitties. I'm slowly making my way through the boxes and just realized that we are already into fall and I can't even begin to think about pumpkins, fall wreaths and decorating.
The house we bought has many unforseen problems that were not
discovered through the home inspection. The tub in the upstairs bath was ruined by the previous owners. Seems they tried to paint it and when we ran water in the tub the surface bubbled up and peeled.
The previous owners had it covered up quite well with a large mat and no one bothered to look underneath! It's going to cost over $1,000 to try and restore it! They also left two cats. We have called every cat rescue organization and they are all full and will not accept anymore cats. I have begged the previous owner to come and get them but she refuses. The deck is falling apart and that is just the beginning of our "money pit" woes.
So, I found a photo from last year and it inspired me to be thankful for all that I have and be grateful everyday for all the blessings I've received throughout my life.
On a positive note...I'm just one mile from my sister. I'm back home where I've longed to be. We are having all of the rooms painted soft and light colors, adding granite counter tops to the kitchen and rebuilding the deck, changing all the light fixtures and making upgrades. I know that within a few months we will start to feel like this is "our" home. I hope to take you along with me during the process.
I promise to stop with the doom and gloom and try to look at this as an opportunity. I'll be able to start decorating just as soon as all the rooms are painted. When the painters are done I can begin unpacking and decorating and will show you some pictures.
Thanks for hanging in there with me and I'll be back with an update.
~~hugs~~

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about these fusterating issues! I hope things turn around soon! Who leaves their cats behind? What horrible people!
I have been thinking about you, Sissie, and hoping that all was going well. What a shame about the tub. The previous owners sound really inconsiderate. And leaving their pets behind?! That's terrible.
I know soon things will brighten up as you work your magic through your new home. Being close to your sister is wonderful! Hang in there!
XO,
Jane
It's always hard to get started when you have improvements to make. But I know you will love it there when it feels more like home. Sending you some sweet hugs!
Oh no--when I saw the Money Pit movie I knew it couldn't be good news! I get so mad at home inspectors---I think they become friends with the realtors and miss things on purpose so you buy the house. So sorry you are finding things wrong! What bothers me even more is that they left their cats! Who does that? They do I guess. Sending good thought your way. I know you'll make a beautiful home!
Just take it one project at a time, Sissie, and wield your magic wand. Before you know it, you will be finished and you can then enjoy your house and once again feel at home.
So Sorry to hear of the unforeseen problems and your "inheritance" of two cats. Gives me a very low opinion of the house's previous owners. What decent person leaves their pets behind?
But on a more positive note, after a while, when you put your creative touch to everything I know you will feel better. Living close to your sister makes it all worth while. I love your blog, but this is the first time I have left a comment.
Being in the real estate business, we see all kinds of awful things, but leaving your pets behind, is just uncalled for:( Since they would do this, not surprise about the tub cover up. You hang in there and enjoy being near your family:)
Blessings,
Linda
Awe, Sissie, I'm sorry to hear about all the troubles you're encountering in the new place.
I have only moved once from one province to another and I never want to do that again. I have however moved many times here on the Island.
I hope by this time next month, everything will be sorted out, fixed, beautified, and Sissiefied. Thinking of you. Take care.
Blessings and hugs,
Sandi
I read your blog all the time Sissie but don't often comment these days...lazy me! I have to chuckle reading this because I can't help but think of one of my favorite movies ever...Mr. Blanding's Builds His Dream House!
Everything will work out and you are so blessed to be where your heart wants to be:)
Oh, Sissie, I'm sorry to hear this. Isn't there some legal action you can take since you just closed recently? Leaving cats behind is not "broom clean condition". I'd call your lawyer.
I know how you feel about the decorating. Even though I labeled our boxes I couldn't find all my stuff last year so I had very few Fall decorations out. I keep it light for Fall anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.
Sissie I am so sorry for the hidden problems and the poor cats left behind! When we bought our house 3 years ago we 'knew' some of the issues but found some hidden one's also. It's awful and expensive but you will make it a home I know and being near your sister is worth it I'm sure. Poor abandoned cats, I know you are doing what you can for them. Take care and deep breaths! Hugs, Linda
oh Sissie, I know how you feel, the same thing happened to us at this house, so many things that were wrong, totally overwhelming I cried for the first few days. so much to do. Take deep breaths and take one day at a time. it will all get done, I promise, but I'm so glad you're back home with family! sending big hugs your way.
Hi Sissie,
I'm sorry to hear about all of the issues in your new house! I know it must seem overwhelming, but I just know that you will work your magic, and in no time your home will be just gorgeous! When we moved back into our house here in MI, it had been so badly damaged by our renter that I cried for days. We worked our tails off cleaning and sanitizing it, not to mention trying to fix all of the destruction she had left. So I can totally relate to what you are dealing with! So glad that you are so close to your sister, that is a real positive! Hang in there, things will feel better soon, I just know it:)
it seems there is always glitches with a new home ownership- hope this is the last of the money pit finds and that you will be happy with your home once everything gets Sissiefied!
bee blessed

Oh my god Sissie, for some reason, it's so awful, it sounds a teeny weeny bit funny. I know, i know it's stressful... really, i hear you, but you are going to make everything fabulous. Hang in there sweet lady, i'm sure all of this awfulness is for a reason you don't know yet...
Cindy
Hi Sissie,
I'm sorry to hear about all the troubles. But I'm glad that you are back home. I'm looking foward to see all the beautiful transformation that is going to take place.
Blessings,
~Wendy
I'm so sorry, Sissie. Moving can be such a hassle - we found things wrong after we moved here, as well. But leaving pets behind? Inexcusable and cruel.

That really stinks about the repairs. I hope you've requested the money in escrow to cover your expenses. And how could the old owner just leave two cats and refuse to come get them?! Who does that??????
Jeanine
I know how stressful moving can be. I am embarrassed to tell you that I still have boxes that I haven't unpacked in my basement for the past 5 years! Apparently there is nothing that I need in those boxes or they could be hiding things that I might vaguely think I already gave away. We thought we bought a house where most things were done but we have sunk a lot of money into this place to make it our own. The important thing is you are where you want to be and close to your sister. Too bad about the kitties though. Previous owners must not be very responsible people....very sad. Take one day at a time! ~Hugs, Patti
Oh Sissy it's ok to be "real" we all relate....life isn't all sunshine all the time. I know you are strong and will get thru it. I feel so badly for those cats. That's what happens here with summer people.

It's okay to vent, really it is. I don't blame you for being frustrated. Leaving behind pets really? that is low. I know you will make a beautiful home Sissie.
Now...listen to me....I just went through this....go away for a few days. You need it. And trust me, you will feel so much better and able to deal with the mess.
And if you don't want the cats...take them to the rescue...you don't need another hastle.
You CAN do this...This will PASS...hey, I am still waiting for a door knob on our bedroom door!!
I love your blog and hate to hear of the problems. I don't know who I feel the worst for...you or the cats. I know you will find them a place that they will be loved. The previous owners seem like losers. Keep us posted. vera
Oh Sissie, so sorry to hear this sweetie! Not nice that they hid the tub, and left cats. They were probably stray cats, and they were feeding them. My neighbor has 6 of them outside, that she feeds. Soon there will be a mob of them. You will have everything the way you want it soon, and I can't wait to see pics!
Hugs,
Debbie
Hi Sissie,
Those are little big problems I'm sure will be solve with all the hard work and love you and family have for your new home!
The important is that you own a home, you have your family close to you and you have health! That 's great! The big picture is great! With your talent, the house will look awesome!! Have a wonderful Fall in WV !! Cheers...
Bless your heart. I know how difficult and frustrating this can be. We will miss your warm spirit in North Carolina, but I am thankful that we all will still have you at the touch of our keyboard.♥
Your e-mail address is no longer working for me. It must have changed with your move. Please let me know your new e-mail when you have time.
I hope your visit at my place means your're making a dent on the painting, etc. and that you're getting some R&R! Moving is always such a nightmare. Best of kuck with it all!
Oh Sissie,
I was just thinking about you this weekend and wondering how you move was going. So happy you are in your house...Unbelievable, those snakes would hide the tub like that!! OK, I am thinking they are not good people, to hide the tub and dump the cats!!! It is hard enough for your cats to adjust without the other ones around. I am so excited for you that your sis is right their, you much be like two excited school girls, I know she will be a big help!!!
Carol
