Growing Older and Our Anniversary

May is the month for my 64th Birthday and Our 39th Wedding
Anniversary.  I think this is what prompted me to write this post.
So, indulge me here because I'm getting kind of sappy.

I was sitting in Pizza Hut with my son enjoying our time together.
We try to do this at least a few times a week just to talk and catch up on things.

I noticed an elderly couple walking across the parking lot.
She was holding onto his arm and looked as though she was somewhat unstable.  He took great pains to make sure that he held her tight while she slowly took each step.

When they made their way to the table he pulled out her chair and gently wrapped her sweater around her frail shoulders.  I couldn't help but notice the love that was so apparent in his eyes.

He prepared her salad and unwrapped her silverware, all the time making sure that she was comfortable.  He took his seat and reached across the table to  hold her hand as they said a little silent prayer.  (By this time I was completely absorbed in the two of them and tried not to let anyone see me stare.)  She gave him a little smile and he asked her if she needed anything else.

It was apparent that she wasn't very well.  And I thought it was so sweet that he still took her out to eat and although it was probably a great effort he made sure she was first in his life.  The romantic in me made me think that he was was her knight in shining armor and that he would do anything for her.

Indulge me here...

He most likely was a young soldier in WWII and she was his young bride waiting for him to return home so they could start a family and make a life together. (sigh)

I wonder if when I'm older and become frail if my husband will be my Knight in shining armor.  Will he still love me, will he still take me to out to dinner although it requires an effort.  Will he still look at me with love in his eyes.  Will he still see the once young and pretty girl inside the face that now isn't so young.  When we spend those final years together will we sit and talk about  when life was hard and how we worked to make it better.  Will we smile and   remember that young and wild romantic love that we shared in the beginning that over the years  turned soft and as comfortable as an old pair of shoes.  Will we still be able to laugh about some of the silly arguments that we used to have and will we hold close to our hearts all that we have loved so dear and so long.

I think so.  I hope so.

Happy 39th Anniversary  Mr. Sissie, I love you so very much.

Time goes by so quickly, doesn't it?

I'm counting my blessings today.  How about you....

~~hugs~~

Sissie

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary, Sissie! I think these things myself sometimes. It hit me that I will have been with my husband 30 years this July {we celebrated our 28th anniv. earlier this month} and I just can't believe it. I'm with you ~ where has the time gone?

What a lovely post. I often point out older couples (older than us) to my husband and say , "See that will be us in a few more years." We celebrated our 38th anniversary earlier this month. Our niece and her love actually got married on our anniversary. We told them, Don't blink...it goes so fast."

Happy birthday and anniversary! Sweet story. I am sure he was always like that. If you marry a caregiver they will remain a caregiver. I am not sure it's something someone will just pick up. I have seen my husband with both my parents. He is a caregiver. :) Enjoy the nice long weekend!

What a sweet story about the older couple. I am sure your DH will do the same for you and if anything happens to him you will comfort him. That is love and after 39 years it definitely is.
Have a great time .

Happy Birthday to you and Happy Anniversary to you and your husband, Sissie. Looking at his photo, I would think that yes, he would be there for you. He looks like a very good man. I think the two of you have been very blessed to have found one another. Knowing what I know of you, I would say that you would also be there for him.

Ah, Happy Anniversay and Happy Birthday, Sissie!
Such a touching story! I'm a sap for those stories too.

You know, my sweet hubby's birthday is in May and so is our Anniversay. May is my favourite month.

When I was so sick back in the wintertime from the fall I took, he looked after me. He worked all day, and then came home and he cooked and cleaned the house for me because I couldn't do anything except lie down. My only outings for weeks were doctor appointments and physio. He was so attentive and adorable. I know he will be there for me when we're old. I have no doubt because he is my knight in shining armour, which is why I married him!

I wish you many more loving years together and by the way, you are a sweet looking couple.

Blessings,
Sandi

I'm sure he will. He has a good face. It was a gift to read about this couple in their sunset years. And they aren't even aware that the evening spoke volumes to you--and to your readers.
