Vintage Suitcase for a Vintage Wedding

Vintage inspired weddings and barn weddings are so much fun and there is no shortage of decorating ideas.  You can find tons of them on Pinterest and wedding blogs.

Some of the things that I've created and sold in my booth are
silver trays made into chalkboards, old tin buckets adorned with lace and ribbon,  decorated mason jars with candles,  burlap runners and burlap flowers, old windows, bird cages, picture frames, vintage china and more! So many of these things have ended up in
wedding venues.

So, I thought I'd try and create something with an old suitcase...
This suitcase is the perfect size.  Not too big and not too small....just right.  So, I painted it white and embellished the top with appliques from an old wedding gown.
Ripped out the old lining and re-lined it and went to town decorating it with rosettes and lace.
I created the "cards" using tags and metal letters.  I glued them to the back but added ribbon at the top and pushed pearl tipped pins through them for some added dazzle.

I lined the inside with papers and then a layer of silk fabric and vintage lace gathered on the sides with burlap rosettes in the corners.

I honestly didn't know where to stop with all the laces and rosettes.  In fact I had to take pictures of it just to see what's missing!  Do you ever do that??

I also added a pretty key and a bauble.

I think I'm done but then again, maybe not.  I just might add a few more rosettes to the back under the "cards."  What do you think, does it need more?

I've been working on this f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!!!  Somebody stop me, please!!!

                                                ~~hugs~~

It's beautiful! I think I would add smaller flowers in the bottom corners of the lid to hide the seam of the ruffle. What a lovely heirloom this could become for a lucky bride. You did a great job!

Oh! It is gorgeous. The only thing I might do is add a bit of that woven (or braided whatever) stuff around the base-under the cards- where the back piece and "side piece" meet. I love it. xo Diana

This is soo pretty and very special with all the trim. But you better stop if you plan to sell it - save something for the next one, because I'm sure this one would sell!
