Do you ever wonder why you are drawn to certain things. Why you like collecting them or why you just can't resist buying them.
I'm this way with pretty vintage slips and gowns.
There was a time when our Moms and Grandmoms wouldn't be caught dead without a slip underneath their dress.
Lacy pinks, whites, creams....some with side slits, zippered...
Labels like Shadowline, Maidenform, Vanity Fair, Vassarette...
Peignoir Sets were a must for every bride.
Lace gowns were a work of art...glamour was so in vogue
Speaking of pretty slips and undies...I remember when I was a little girl that I would watch my Mom primping in front of her vanity, wearing her slip and pretty under things. I dreamed of one day having lovely lingerie just like hers. Guess that's why I love collecting vintage pretties.
Slip fact: Slips were made of rayon during the 1940's. Because of the war rayon was the only fabric available. It wasn't until later that nylon was used.
This is my real Mom on the right. She and her girlfriend were ready for a night on the town with their guys. You can see just a hint of the pretty lace slips. Looks like her girlfriend was rockin the red crinoline!
Feminine, glamorous and so very girlie...
How about you...do you still wear a slip or a frilly, fancy gown????
~~hugs~~

I remember those times. Seems like they were not that far away. Thanks for the lovely reminder. Love your blog. Jo
Good morning Sissie. Good to see you. I love frilly underwear and I love my VS. Together with my granddaughters we will be visiting the shop in London again this summer. LOL.
Have a nice week.
My Mom had beautiful slips and had petticoats for her cocktail dresses. I don't wear slips now but they are beautiful and feminine and from a time gone by.
hugs,
Linda
Hi Sissie,
I can remember wearing slips and nylons!!!! Not so much anymore. Those days are gone. Love the picture of your mom and her friend in their little black dresses. So sweet and fun.

I do! But I wear mine as clothes. In my 20's I wore slips as dresses and skirts. I layered them so nothing was ever see- through! I still wear long white lacy slips as skirts. I remember one time when I was 20 and went to SF for the day with my girlfriends. I wore a vintage white slip under a long pink sweater and two older women stopped, stared, pointed and quietly chatted about me. We laughed so hard! Of course I had a pair of cute vintage mary janes on too.
What a wonderful post! Love the photo of your Mom. What a good idea to collect such lovelies...your collection is wonderful.
I remember way back when all my lingerie were matching set5s. For both high school and college graduation I received stacks of lingerie as gifts - seems a bit creepy now, but all the rage back then.
oh I love that photo of your mom and her friend, how fun!! and yes, back in the 70's I had several crocheted dresses that I dyed slips to match. For some reason I never went the fancy undies route. and I'm a pajama kind of gal now. cute post!
So pretty, Sissie. I wear a slip under one skirt I own and it is nothing fancy. More for function since it is not a lined skirt and light in color. That is such a pretty peignoir. Great photo of your Mom and her friend, too!
I wore slips forever, and still have one or two in my drawer. My Mom was very old fashioned, and taught my 3 sisters and me to wear slips so no one could see through our dresses. Don't know what they would have seen. And to think it's fashionable these days to wear things showing your tummy, and some guys show their butts to us!! Funny how things have changed. Loved this post. Love your pretty slips and lingerie too! I have a picture of my Mom made in the 20's dressed in her finest silk. I'll have to share it in a post. (oh, I wore crinolines too). Am I telling my age?? :)
I love them too Sissy. They are just pure girliness and fluff... irresistable
Cindy

So beautiful. Love them

You truly do have a lovely collection of under garments, Sissie. LOVE the photo of your Mom and her girlfriend.
If you are going to collect something, it might as well be fun, and beautiful!

I remember those days too Sissie. I bet you would have never gone out without one. I rarely wear one. My mom might be shocked at that, come to think about it :)
As far as a pretty nightgown---once in awhile but usually just pretty jammies.
Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
hugs from me....
Dear Sissie...I haven't worn or even owned a slip in so many years, I can't even remember.."back in the day", we wore dresses or skirts all the time and I had lots of pretty slips...and garter belts...and those terrible fitting panty hose...nooo, I don't want to go back to those days.
I do love the pic of your pretty mama..and both ladies had legs that would have stopped traffie in downtown Dallas...:)
Thanks for coming over...the beautiful Summer House belongs to our son and daughter in law and the story is a dream come true for Mr. Sweet and I...a long story, tho.
hugs to you..bj
You have a lovely collection of pretties here, Sissie! I just don't know if half or full slips will ever come back. Whenever my daughter shops and buys a sheer top or something with thin straps or even strapless, she has a camisole or a special bra to wear with it. I wouldn't know what to do! Well, I do have some cami's for sheer or low cut blouses. When I was a working girl I wore slips and full slips under my skirts and dresses (this was in the 80's)! And we always wore pantyhose. I don't know how younger gals do it in the winter-no one wears pantyhose anymore. If I go somewhere formal in the colder months I'm usually wearing my preferred black and then I can wear black stockings. I wonder if sales have gone down on nude pantyhose? I love that the Brit's, or at least the royals, have the decency!!
Love the pic of your mom and her friend. Looks at the gams on those ladies! Was your mom a redhead?
Thanks for the visit. I think you're right about our would-be decorator hubbie's...simply retired/semi-retired and bored!

I wore slips back in the day and that peignoir set looks a lot like the one I wore on my wedding night, except mine was soft lavender. I used to sell those in the ladies wear shop where I worked when I was first married. We had the best lingerie in the city at that time. A lot has changed over the years. We wear camis now under our sheer tops and dresses. I do love your girly collection, Sissie! The pic of your mom and her girlfriend is so fun.
Hugs,
Sandi
