Why do we blog????

I have been thinking about my blog today and decided it was time for me to attend the "Blog Revival" that's in my head.  I realize that I need to think about why I started blogging and why I have slacked off.  The answer isn't so simple.  Maybe it's boredom  such as not having anything interesting to talk about....nah, that's just an excuse.  Maybe it's because of all the social media avenues where you hit the "like" button....nah, that's so impersonal.  Maybe it's everyday business of life....nah, I'm no more busy than I was last year or the year before....
Maybe it's this:
Nah, kitties provide inspiration.
Anyway, I went back to the first blog post that I wrote in August, 2009.  As bad as it was, it was still written from the heart.  I had a need to share the things I love with like minds and after awhile the persistence paid off.  I networked, shared and before long friends were made and a great deal of satisfaction came from being part of the blog community. Remember the  the Sits Girls???...a great place to help start your blog.

Here's a photo from one of my first blog posts.  Just a plain little chair that I painted.  I remember being so proud of this simple project.

Then again,  there is something very satisfying about handing your card to someone and saying... I hope you'll come visit me on my blog.

I truly believe that bloggers share a special bond.  Only bloggers understand how we beat ourselves up when we neglect to post on a regular basis.  We kind of speak our own language.  So, as I write this the answer comes to me and my blogging revival has come to an end....my revelation is that I will always be a blogger because I love it and I love all my blogging buddies.  Pure. And. Simple.

For those of us who have been around for awhile, we have all  noticed the change in the Blogasphere.

I've seen blogging buds disappear never to be heard from again and bloggers that used to comment have stopped doing so.  I've noticed that many bloggers are now using their blogs for monetary reasons, and that's fine for them.  I'm not judging.  It's their choice.  Honestly I've stopped visiting some of those blogs because I cannot read their posts for all of the pop-up ads and waiting for all the ad material to load before you can even read them. Ugh!

How about you, have you been a blogging slacker? Do you have anything to add as to why???

Nuff said.  I just had to get this off my mind.  Hope I haven't bored you to death.  If you are still with me then here's a look at a little chair that I painted with chalkpaint.  It seemed like the perfect addition to the guest bath.  I just added some towels, a bucket for necessities and of course, a Jeanne d'Arc Living magazine.

Love this framed print... Sure wish I had a thin backside like hers...dang!
Okay, that's it for now.

Sissie , I'm glad you wrote this . I used to blog a lot more , AND write from my heart too ......I'm not quite sure why I don't blog as much now . I guess it's that now I do Pinterest , Face book Flickr , and of course my etsy . It seems harder now to take the time to share the things that I used to share , but I think about it too ...... that I miss doing that . I check your blog often , and I always find it beautiful and interesting , so I hope you'll be blogging more , I'm going to try to post on my blog more TOO . THANKS !!!!!

I really enjoyed your post. Blogging has changed so much in the last few years. I find that I am a bit busier then I use to be since moving near my Grands, but my life changes have been reflected on my blog. I've always be a 2 to 3 day a week blogger and I'm trying to continue that. I like that as we ourselves change so do our blogs and the things we are interested in. I love the friendships I've made in blog land and yours is one of them! After all our kitties are in love so we are sorta related!
hugs,
Linda

Thank you Sissie for your kind visit to my latest post. Thank you for reminding 'us' whom blog just because we like to and want to share our beauty and hearts that we should keep blogging. I cannot believe that you have been blogging for so long and we just met! I began blogging in 2007. Yours is one of my favorites to visit. xo

I think we all question why in the world we spend the time blogging when there are other things piling up around us. I like the daily connection to friends around the world. I like sharing what I do. I like to read other blogs. It is rather special when someone taps you on the shoulder to whisper, "I read your blog."

Love the chair and i hope you chose a JDL magazine with your name in it!

I love the friends I've met in blogging (and several who've commented here!), and then to find those things that connect us - like the antiquing, and the fact that you're from WV! I can't imagine writing a blog (or antiquing) with money as an incentive. It's about the hunt, the fun in styling, sharing the back stories, and seeing someone get as excited about the things you love as much as you did in sourcing them, creating them or repurposing them!
I love that you carry the JDL line, and I have been eyeing one of those tops ever since you featured Donna. I'll be springing for one soon, I just know it.
Have a great rest of the week, Sissie.

Life gets in the way, and sometimes the creative energy isn't there. I believe you described many of us. For me, to blog is to seek inspiration, and if it inspires even one soul, it is a good thing. I love your beautiful and inspiring place out in blog land, and I hope you continue letting the creative energy flow out to us. Thank you.

Blessings,
Yaya

Sissie, there have been so many of us who have posted just the same thoughts as yours. There seems to be a trend in bloggers who have gone BIG time and advertise, write for companies that give them free things to post about, and so and and so on. When I started in 2007, blogs were few and far between. So it was all new and fun and about making friends and sharing ideas. The wind has been taken out of many of our sails. But just keep being you! I just have not had the time to devote to my blog like before since I am busy with trying to make my antique business successful.

Thanks for being YOU and for the love put into your blog.

Loved your post today Sissie. I have to agree blogging like everything else goes through changes some good and some not so good. I too have stopped visiting the blogs that have so many pop ups that you cannot read the actual post. I love blogging to share my decor crazy and to find inspiration. The friendships that have formed for me since I started blogging are what it is about for me. Have a great rest of the week.

Hi Sissie,

You wrote what a lot of us have been thinking. I have thought about taking a good long break because I feel stale. Also as much as I love blogging, it does take a lot of time especially when you're a perfectionist like I am and I'm not happy with a post until my photos suit me and the content is interesting. I think the biggest annoyance for me are the blogs that have all the advertising on them. Honestly, some of them take so long to load that one could be half finished of their cup of coffee before it finally settles down.

Glad you shared and you have decided to keep blogging because we would miss you. Love your white shabby chair! Hope you're having a fabulous day.

Hugs,
Sandi

Hey Sissie... Thanks for writing this! I think for me, i am just overwhelmed with all the different social media choices, and feel like i don't know which way to turn with facebook, instagram, blogging, etsy, pinterest and more all being out there. I miss checking on everyone's blog everyday, it was part of the rhythm of my world, and I love all my blogging friends, but feel somewhat shut down from the sheer bulk of keeping up with it all.

I always appreciate your blog visits and every couple of weeks try and catch up on my blog reading. It's difficult to keep up with all of the social media that is now out there, so I think that for many it's just not the same any longer.

Hi Sissie,
I am new to your blog. I do not have a blog, but I follow many. I really hate that some of my favorite blogs have all those adds and pop up junk. I NEVER read them, so the folks paying the bloggers for their adds are not achieving what they hope they are!In fact I avoid their products because it irritates me that the add is in the way!

I love your blog....so please stay with it. I know what you mean when get blogs have gone away...I still check them wanting them to come back. Please don't leave us as we want to see more of your things.

Yes, I've been slacking and I'm not quite sure why. Summer is always rough for me because my boys are home and camp is only half-day. Keeping them busy is number one priority right now. I have a little soul-searching to do regarding my blog. I'm considering some changes and perhaps a new direction.

Hi Sissy,
I have enjoyed your blog for a very long time. I am not very good at leaving comments, and I promise to make an effort to do that more. I have moved with you, missed your sister, enjoyed your creativity and always been left with a smile. I agree, that some blogs have become so difficult to read because of all the ads. I have had to back away from some of those.
I have made a lot of terrific friends, that I probably will never meet in person. But they still enrich my life.
My blog has not been added to for well over a year. My reason is I have taken on some responsibilities at home that take on much more of my time. And my photos - yuck. I can not take a decent photo at all.
Perhaps when my house returns to normal (whatever that is) I will pick it back up again. I miss it. But I am glad to have my blogging friends that I look forward to every morning.
*Smiles*

HI Sissie, Great post here to stop and make you think. I know for me I started a shop and when that happened i had to blog about what i was doing and after a while it was a lot of the same. But i kept blogging and I lost lots of my regular blog friends, but I totally understood why. Who wants to read about one thing only? So now that I have ended that 3 year adventure I am back to blogging about the smorgasboard of my life. And that feels good. I know not so many feel like reading blog posts anymore, too much time when you can just hit the like button on FB or Instagram. But I like the blogging aspect and try to visit my friends blogs as well as looking around for blogs that feel like they are a good fit these days. Maybe blogging is too much work and takes too much time to write one or even read one...and I also have tried to keep my ads to a minimum as I hate the invasive nature of them. xo

Such a great post Sissie!I really don't have a good reason for slacking other than I'm just not on the computer as much as I used to be. Somehow, I feel I haven't got much to say any more. I always have good intentions, but no follow through.
I love what you wrote about the blogs with ads. I can't even visit them any more because it's impossible to wait for the post to load. It isn't because I don't want to read what my friends have to say, it's just that I don't have time to wait that long for it.
Blogging has changed, and I have even thought I would do better to just post my photos on FB which is so much easier, but know that I would miss Blogger too much.
Great post my dear!!!!
sending hugs....

I like this post Sissie. There are so many avenues out there for posting now, it seems blogging is going by the wayside. It won't for me, because I am not smart enough to use the other media sources....lol.
I've been a follower of your blog since I began blogging, and have always been inspired by you.
I don't like the pop-up adds either. They are very annoying, and cause me to skip a blog post if I'm not in the mood to deal with one.
I think we all go through dry spells in blogging. Seasons have something to do with it,too. Summer is a busy time for me here at the lake.
The blogworld is constantly evolving. some things are good, some not so much. We will all adjust....or stick together!!!
Good post, Sissie!

Oh yeah!!! There is one blog that while trying to read it, an ad with sound comes on and takes over the screen; I click on to another one!! Then the ones with the ads across the bottom of their photos!!!!! UGH! Just too much to wade through to read those. I blog, because I like the friendships. I don't make money off my blog, I don't have a fancy camera for my photos, I don't stage my shots! I shoot what is there, and that's it. I do like to edit photos, and add borders, etc., but that's as good as it gets! So let's just keep blogging for the fun of it and to heck with all the social media! I check facebook, but instagram, twitter, and all that is just too much!! Great post!

Sissie, I have been a blog slacker, I don't exactly know why though. I have been busy with the Polka dot Flea and not been doing as much DIY. I think maybe I burned out. It takes me 2-3 hours to write and rewrite a blog post and I don't seem to want to make time for it. You are right, the really active blogs are monetary and don't have the personal homegrown feel. I kind of think those of us just blogging because we enjoy blogging, are far a few between. I have to admit, FB is a lot quicker and easier to read. Is blogging fading out?? I don't know. I went to the Haven blog Conference to see if I could maybe jump start my blogging, put a little life back in?...It did not work. I love your blog and so many others. I think we just have to keep on and blog when we can and not put pressure on ourselves as to how often we blog. It is interesting that a lot of bloggers have lost their mojo. Thank you for bringing this up!
