Shabbying up a dry sink and my thoughts on negative blog comments!

I'll get to that negative blog comment issue in just a minute but first let's focus on the positive...

I found this dry sink in a pretty sad state.  It was a stained brown wood with zero personality so I decided to rescue it!
I'm sure you know that feeling.  You see an old piece of furniture and think to yourself....."I can breathe new life into this sweet thing...a little paint, a little sanding and then some staging and oh, yeah baby it's blog worthy!"

Well, maybe not all that, but it's kinda cute...
It would make a great potting stand or a coffee bar...

She's still a little rough around the edges but still very sweet in a rustic, shabby farmhouse kinda way...

Now, a thought about negative blog comments.
It isn't often that I get mean comments nor do I normally share feelings about these sort of things here on my blog.  I always strive to keep posts upbeat and happy.  After all we are all here to share our creative sides and not to air out frustrations and depressing stuff.  However, sometimes a mean comment shakes you up a little.

The really bad thing about these negative comments is that they are always anonymous!!!  Um.  Looks like as if they had to say it then why not give their name so you can reply to them.  Anyway,if I could reply to this anonymous commenter, here's what I'd say....

Dear Anonymous:
Thank you for visiting my blog.  I'm glad that you have taken the time to read my post and that it has inspired you to leave a comment.  I choose my post contents very carefully and I am always true to myself and what I believe.  Might I suggest that you keep an open mind to the blogger's point of view and might I suggest that if you do not enjoy reading my blog that you choose another blog that is more suitable to your taste.  Again, thank you for the insight but for now I choose to just be me, Sissie at Sissie's Shabby Cottage.

Okay, I'm alright now.  Just had to vent.
Everyone have a great weekend.  I'm on my way to visit your blogs and you can bet that my comments will always be positive.

                                          ~~hugs~~

I had a dry sink that my MIL gave me at one time and since I didn't have a spot for it gave it away. Now I wish that I'd saved it after seeing yours!
As for the negatives, I don't get them often on my blog...but I have a large Facebook page and they are daily over there. DELETE and move on is my theory as it's about THEM and not about YOU ;-)

Your reply is spot on! I follow a great number of blogs (probably a number too many) and do not always like or agree with the content. I am able to move on and visit another blog if this is so. If I wrote a blog, you would surely not like all of my content. We are not required to judge. We are not cookie cut. We are all unique. Don't you get tired of having to go over this fact all the time with those who are blind to the Truth? 'nuff said!
Love the dry sink! Wish you were close and I would get it.
Have lovely Wed.

I have had the occasional nasty comment ... I delete and move on! Now dear Sissie, tell me what kind of paint you used to transform the dry sink? Lovely.

Beautiful job! Looks so fresh and appealing. It would make a great storage piece anywhere. I will never understand the impulse to that kind of negativity. You gave the perfect response!

Hi Sisie, I love the way your dry sink turned out! I think it's so sweet.....
As for the mean comment, sometimes people tend to forget what blogging is all about...I feel if you have nothing nice to say, just don't say anything at all...sometimes silence Is a blessing....

Hope you have a great day.....

People who leave negative comments must be so miserable in their daily lives. I mean if you're happy, do you have time or the desire to leave a snotty comment on someone's blog? I know I don't! Sorry that happened to you.

Sissie, Sorry someone was mean..I do not understand mean people...they may be lonely or sad. I pray for them. I love the idea of that dry sink being a coffee bar...perfect I'd say. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Well, I'm sorry you had to deal with a negative blog comment, Sissie! Of course, they are always anonymous or are a "no profile" blogger who just signed up. Some people have nothing better to do with their time than say mean things to other people and unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet allows that to happen.

Anyway, love your makeover. This is just a cute piece that would make a great coffee bar - you're right. That's what I imagined when I saw it.

Hi Sissie! Oh, how I love the dry sink and especially how you styled it too! I have one down in my basement, it was my mom's, my oldest brother who has passed bought and stained it for her. When mom passed I brought it home with me and back then I was prim, so painted it black and knew my mom would not have minded because she liked to decorate too! Now the wheels are turning in my mind!LOL
People just amaze me, I've never had any negative comment that I can think of but this summer hasn't been a very good one for me...an operation and totaling my car has kept me from posting... so I've lost two followers but that's okay.
Just delete and move on they aren't worth even thinking about them for minute.

Your dry sink turned out great, I just love it.
Now how awful someone left a negative comment, I would be devastated as I know I take those type of things to heart and would bother me for days. Bless you and I hope it never happens again.

I have had to endure my fair share of unkindness too dear Sissie. The one who bullies me really thinks she is a something in blogland but behind the scenes she is a completely different person. My husband had to block her from my email. She would not leave me alone. All you can do is ignore. And forgive. Forgiveness keeps the heart free.

Your dry sink is wonderful! I think you did a beautiful job restoring it. It really could be used for all sorts of things. I hope the mean comments stop. It really is like a pebble in the shoe if it goes on and on.

Love the transformation of the dry sink - perfect for the white ironstone pitcher collection. Bad manners - If you cannot say something nice, do not say anything!

Love your sweet dry sink re love. It is so cute. I have not really gotten any negative comments on my blog but I like how you addressed this. Peeps can be so rude sometimes and then hide behind anonymous not cool! My motto is if you do not like something on someone's blog or facebook etc. then move on and do not be rude. It is about you and your style and if you do not like it then move on to what suits you better.
Life is too short for that kind of mean spirited stuff. I love your blog Sissy and it makes me smile every time I visit.

Sissie, your dry sink is wonderful! I found a cabinet that looks like a dry sink a number of years ago. It was brown wood and ugly. I brought it home and painted it then distressed it a bit and now it is my stereo stand. I love how it turned out and it makes a cute piece of furniture.

I don't know why someone would leave you a nasty comment. Life is too short for that sort of thing. Ignore it. You always post about lovely things and we all enjoy what you share. We love your blog and you.

Hugs,
Sandi

What a beautiful piece, Sissie! I love your idea of using it as a coffee bar! And of course it would be perfect as a potting bench! Shame on that anonymous commenter who
must have left you a rude comment! What ever happened to good old fashioned kindness and politeness?? As the old saying goes, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say a word!" I do love your response to them, though. You took the high road and I commend you for that. Stay true to yourself, sweet Sissie!!

Hi Sissie,
I did not see the negative comment, glad you deleted it!
You handled it with class and tackt. There are always those negative people out there and I find when they behave like that they are jealous of you! You have a great blog and you are beautiful! Keep up the great attitude and wonderful posts!
Blessings

The dry sink is so cute, Sissie. You did a great job of re-doing it.
Your reply to the negative comment was perfect. I don't understand why anyone would even bother commenting on a blog if they didn't care for it. Like everyone else said....move on to something that suits you.
I LOVE your beautiful blog, Sissie. Your style, and talent inspires me.
Smooches.
