Great Finds at the Auction

Hi Bloggerettes!!  I love to spend my Sunday afternoons at the auction.  Sometimes I come home with treasures and other times, empty handed.  I had the winning bid on these vintage hammered
aluminum pieces.  Hammered aluminum is making a comeback and is being sought after by collectors.

In the 1950's or before many pieces were given as wedding gifts.
The pieces scratched and dented easily, so most were stored away and not used.  It is rare to find pieces that are not scratched and often dented.

This sweet bowl is marked Nasco, Italy.
This sweet little basket is the cutest thing ever.....It's marked Continental Trade/Hand Wrought/No.526.
Really pretty.....................
This tray was in my etsy shop and sold right away.
I think one of the biggest decisions to make about hammered aluminum is whether or not to clean it.  The above piece retained its shine while the others have a softer patina.

One website recommended cleaning with mag wheel cleaner.  I haven't tried it because I prefer it with the original patina.

What did you find this week.  I'm going bloghopping to find out!

                                             ~~hugs~~

Morning Sissie! You got yourself 2 lovely pieces there. I especially love the sweet basket. I don't think I would clean them either, unless they were in really bad shape; but these 2 pieces look wonderful. Have a great day!!

Beautiful pieces. I see quite a bit of hammered aluminum when I am out thrifting. I haven't picked any pieces up but maybe I should if it's making a comeback! My husband will be thrilled when I start with a new collection :-)
Have a wonderful day.

It's beautiful...and don't you know I went over to your shop to see what was there this morning.

I've been eying that mirror forever it seems. I just can't think of where I'd put it. I have one other that was my great-grandmother's and is nowhere near as pretty as the one in your shop.

Great finds. The first peice you showed, the bowl, had such lovely raised detail. I love the tray and am not surprised it went so fast. Plus trays are such a great peice when putting vignettes together. I have quite a few of these aluminum peices. I tend to use them outside. They don't break and add a great touch to an outdoor event. I never thought about polishing them, hmmm...maybe.
Have a great day and good luck with your continued treasure hunts.

You did find some beautiful pieces! Most of mine are well used, dented and LOTS of patina. I may try to clean one piece and see if I like it.

Hi Sissie, You found some sweet pieces there! I can't remember that I've ever seen hammered aluminum in Germany but I'll keep an eye open in the future. It rained here on Sunday, so I didn't go to the flea market. Hopefully the weather will be nicer next Sunday since I would like to do some treasure hunting.
Have a lovely day!
Hugs,
Julia

Sounds like a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoons Sissie, and I love the treasures you found this time around. I personally don't clean too much, the patina is what gives the vintage quality, but I guess it's a case of personal preference and where you plan to use the piece:-)

Those pieces are beautiful! I loooove them! I have several that were my mama's. My parents married in 1948, so this was at the time my parents were setting up housekeeping.

Sissie, I don't know if you even fool around with blog awards, but I honored you at my place! Mainly I just wanted any of my readers that weren't already a friend of yours to find you and drop in! I always enjoy my visits here!

big hug!

These are among the prettiest I've ever seen, Sissie. Most are very common designs and no where near as shiny. You did good!

You did good Sissie!
I have a couple pieces myself. They were my Grandmothers, I like the dull look myself. Probaly because I don't like to polish silver! I'm dying to go to an auction, I've never been. Knowing me I'd spend 200. on a plate or something, just cuz I'd want to be the winner. Lisa

Sissie,
Great auction finds! Hubby and I were just talking about the aluminum drinking glasses and trays that were so popular in the 1950s. Both our mothers owned a set. We went antiquing in Williamsburg last weekend and I saw quite a few aluminum pieces. You are right, that they are making a comeback.
